CLE ELUM, Wash. – The New Mexico State women’s golf team concluded play at the 2014 NCAA West Regional on Saturday, finishing in 23rd place with a total three-round score of 107-over-par 971 (317-328-326).

The Aggies closed out the 2013-14 season by shooting a 38-over 326 during the final round at the par-72, 6,252-yard Tumble Creek Club at Suncadia Resort.

Sophomore Viviana Macias shot the low round of the day and the tournament for NM State on Saturday, a 5-over 77.  She finished in a group of six golfers that finished in a tie for 101st place with a total score of 28-over 244 (80-87-77).

Also in the group at 28-over were freshman Camille Orito and sophomore Kacey Dalpes.  The Aggie duo went into the third round tied at 17-over and shot matching 11-over-par rounds during the final round to make it three NM State golfers at 28-over.

Freshman Kristen Cline almost made it four Aggies with the same final score.  She finished one shot back of her teammates after carding a final-round score of 14-over 86 to finish in a tie for 107th place with a total score of 29-over 245 (78-81-86).

Freshman Valeria Macias rounded out the NM State squad.  Like Orito and Dalpes, she shot an 11-over 83 on Saturday to finish with a total score of 37-over 253 (86-84-83) and in a tie for 120th place.

Defending national champion Southern California outlasted host Washington to win the NCAA West Regional.  The Trojans finished at 12-over 876 while the Huskies finished one shot back at 13-over 877.

Rounding out the top-eight teams that will move on to the NCAA Championship were Arizona State, Oklahoma, Michigan State, Iowa State, Texas A&M and Northwestern.  The eight teams will join the top-eight teams from the East Regional and the top eight from the Central Regional to make up the 24-team field that will vie for the national championship in Tulsa, Okla.

Arizona State’s Noemi Jimenez took home the individual crown after carding a total score of 3-under-par 213.  SooBin Kim of Washington and Annie Park of USC finished tied for second, a couple of shots behind Jimenez at 1-under 215.

The Aggies will now look forward to the beginning of the 2014 fall schedule.  With only one graduating senior, Amelie Buhl, and winners of two of its final-three tournaments, the NM State squad looks to keep its end-of-the-year momentum into next season and defend its Western Athletic Conference title.
