GREELEY, Colo. – The New Mexico State baseball team used a four-run ninth inning to pick up a 12-9 win over Northern Colorado, Sunday, April 6 in Greely, Colo. The Aggies swept UNCO and are now 13-8 overall and 5-4 in Western Athletic Conference play.  The Bears fall to 5-26 and 0-9 in WAC play.

The Aggies took a 4-0 lead heading into the bottom of the fourth but UNCO crossed the plate eight times on four hits.  The Bears started the inning with two consecutive walks and a hit batter to load the bases. UNCO used a single and a wild pitch to gain momentum while taking an 8-4 lead.

The NM State pitching staff held off the Bears’ offense, allowing just one more run to score, which came in the bottom of the fifth.  The Aggies scored a run on a Jory Goldstrom single in the top of the sixth before three NM State base runners crossed the plate in the top of the seventh. The Aggies walked three times in the top of the seventh and finished the afternoon with seven walks while Goldstrom tallied another RBI, this time on a fielder’s choice.  Goldstrom ended the day going 1-of- at the dish with three RBI and now has 15 on the season.

The Aggies were down 9-8 heading into the ninth inning but third baseman got things going reaching base on an error by the UNCO shortstop. Aggie right fielder Micheal Paulson, who went 3-of-4 with three runs scored, kept the momentum going with a single. After a couple of walks and a groundout-RBI by catcher Kevin Carswell, who went 2-of-5 with four RBI, the Aggies would continue playing as the Bears committed a throwing error allowing another NM State runner to score.  Centerfielder Michael Medina finished the rally with a triple to right field, bringing in Goldstrom.

Aggie hurler Chad Ramsey earned the win for NM State as he entered the game in the fifth inning and worked 4.0 innings on the mound while giving up just two hits.  Lefty Trey Higginbotham finished the game, working the ninth inning and sitting down all three batters that came to the plate.

NM State now has a game against Air Force Academy, Tuesday, April 8 at 3 p.m. (MT) in Colorado Springs, Colo.
