LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The New Mexico State softball team fell to No. 9 Nebraska, 11-0, on day two of the 2014 Hotel Encanto Invitational. The Aggies go to 1-2 on the season, while the Huskers improve to 3-0 on the year.

NM State had four total hits in the game, as Staci Rodriguez led the Aggies at the plate with two hits on three at bats. Lacey Rother and Emma Adams recorded the other two Aggie hits.

Celisha Walker took the loss for the Aggies and goes to 0-1 on the season after pitching four-and-a-third innings, allowing nine runs on nine hits.

The Aggies and Huskers opened the game with each team showing impressive defense, as neither team allowed a run to score. After one full inning of play the score remained 0-0.

The second inning was much the same, although the Aggies mustard one hit, while holding Nebraska to no hits. With two innings gone, the score was tied 0-0.

In the top of the third inning, the Huskers opened up the scoring, crossing the plate three times. Nebraska hit a one run double and a two run home run to get on the board in the top of the third. NM State went down in order in the bottom of the inning, as the score remained 3-0 after three.

The Aggies defense held the Huskers to no runs in the top of the fourth, as Walker faced four batters, getting two ground outs, a fly out and a walk. Offensively, NM State loaded the bases in the bottom of the inning after two straight walks but was unable to push any runners across home play, as Nebraska maintained a 3-0 lead after four innings of play

In the fifth, the Huskers put their first two runners on base before Nebraska’s Kylee Muir hit a three run home run to extend their lead to 6-0. The Huskers quickly put runners back at second and third, still with no outs in the inning. A sacrifice fly scored another run from third to make it 7-0. Nebraska would add four more runs to make it 11-0 after fourth and a half innings.

The Aggies would have two runners reach base in the bottom of the fifth but could not push any runs across the plate, as NM State fell to No. 9 Nebraska, 11-0.

The Aggies will be back in action to wrap up play in the 2014 Hotel Encanto Invitational on Sunday at 11 a.m., to face Saint Mary’s before taking on UTEP at 1:30 p.m.
