Aggies Move to 5-0 in WAC Play After Sweeping Chicago State on the Road

CHICAGO, Ill. - The New Mexico State volleyball team remains undefeated in Western Athletic Conference play after sweeping Chicago State (25-18, 25-16, 25-12), Thursday, Oct. 10, at Jacoby Dickens Center in Chicago, Ill. The Aggies move 10-8 overall and 5-0 in WAC play as Chicago State falls to 2-17 on the season and 0-5 in league play.
 
Red-shirt sophomore Gwen Murphy had an efficient night offensively  as she led the Aggies with a career-high 11 kills on a .600  hitting percentage.   NM State hit .486 in the match and held the Cougars to a .107 hitting percentage.
 
"Gwen [Murphy] is getting better and it was nice to distribute the ball the way we did," said head coach Mike Jordan. 
 
The Aggies had four different players with at least six kills on the evening with seniors Desiree Scott and Lauren Loerch chipping in with seven kills each.  Senior Stephanie Ziegler added seven kills on ten swings for a career-high .700 hitting percentage and sophomore Bradley Nash marked six kills on a .417 hitting percentage.
 
The NM State attack  hit .486 in the match with setters Ciara Brown and Taylor Livoti  spreading the ball around notching 17 assists each.
 
 
After hitting .268 in set one the Aggies put down 16 kills on 20 swings with only two errors for a .700 hitting percentage The Aggies were capable of doing some different things came out of the intermission to hit .568 with another 16 kills.
 
The Aggies continue their road trip taking on Kansas City,  Saturday, Oct. 12 at 6:00 p.m. (MT) in Kansas City, Mo.  That match is scheduled to air on the radio in Las Cruces on KSNM AM 570 with Jay Sanderson giving the play-by-play.  Live stats will be available online at www.NMStateSports.com
