LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The New Mexico State University men’s tennis team will have its first road test of the season this weekend as it competes at the Balloon Fiesta Invitational being held in Albuquerque, N.M.

The tournament, which will run from Friday, Oct. 4, through Sunday, Oct. 6, will feature four singles flight and two doubles flights.

The Aggies kicked off their fall schedule with an impressive showing at their home tournament, the Aggie Invitational at the NM State Tennis Center.  Aggie sophomore Liam Goldberg notched a championship in his flight during his first tournament for NM State.  Fellow sophomore Strahinja Trecakov also reached the final of his flight.  Unfortunately, Trecakov lost in three tough sets, losing the final set 7-6, to finish in second.  In doubles play, sophomores Naveen Manivannan and Thomas Douglas took home the championship in their flight.

During last year’s Balloon Fiesta Invite, the duo of Manivannan and former Aggie player Daniel Fernandez brought home the title of the Cherry Flight.  In singles competition, a NM State player reached the final match in three of the four flights, but unfortunately was defeated in all three matches.

For a recap of each day’s final Aggie results in all flights log on to NMStateSports.com beginning Friday afternoon.
