LARAMIE, Wyo. (Sept. 15)-The New Mexico State soccer team concluded its non-conference slate with a 1-0 win at Wyoming. Sophomore defender Mikaela Haley scored her first career goal in the victory. The Aggies improved to 3-4-1, while the Cowgirls fell to 3-3-1.

Senior goalkeeper Jessica Schutter recorded a career-high nine saves en route to her second consecutive shutout. She now has three shutouts this season and six in her career, which ties her for first in the Aggie record books.

“Again, we played better in the second half than the first,” head coach Blair Quinn said. “We were connecting a lot of passes, but not going anywhere in the first half. In the second half, we were still connecting passes, but we started having some purpose to what we were trying to do, and where we were going.

“We had a great goal off of a free kick. Mikaela Haley scored her first college goal, which is exciting. It was very early and a great start to the second half.”

At halftime, the Aggies and Cowgirls were tied at 0-0. The Crimson and White defense controlled the period with Schutter grabbing seven saves.

In the 51st minute, the Aggies took a 1-0 advantage, when Haley scored on a free kick. The lone score of the game was helped with an assist from senior midfielder Daisy Hernandez.

The Aggies open 2013 WAC play with a home and home series with Kansas City next weekend. NM State plays at Kansas City, Friday, Sept. 20 at 6 p.m. and then hosts the Kangaroos, Sunday, Sept. 22 at 1 p.m.
