Postgame Interview NM State-UTEP

New Mexico State head coach Doug Martin

It seemed like a tale of two halves tonight?

“Well, it was just turnovers. We beat ourselves and that’s the one thing we can’t accept. As a competitor, if another team comes out and they are better than you and they win that’s fine but two turnovers in the red zone-- we can’t win doing that.”

What about the turnovers the Aggies had and then not capitalizing on the one they gained?

“The turnover margin is the difference for us right now and every game along with our quarterback plays. We have to get King Davis ready to play and he has to start believing in this football team.”

What do you think about both quarterbacks play tonight?

“Well both quarterbacks had their time tonight, but with decent guys they can make plays, but they have to make plays consistently.”

Next up, is UCLA and there is no time to rest.

“Nope, they are probably going to be a top 10-team after tonight so we have our work cut out for us.”

UTEP head coach Sean Kugler

On the next to last drive when you just ran the ball on every single play until you’re in the end zone is that going to define your era now?

“Well you mentioned it last week that we didn’t finish, and unfortunately, we came short last week, but we challenged the kids and we basically ran the same plays that we did in the end of last week when we finished the game. I was very proud of our defense tonight, they were challenged.”

How good was the offensive line?

“I thought they did a good job particularly in the second half, I think we had over 200 yard rushing in the second half, that’s a pretty good day in the office.”

Coach talk about this rivalry it’s in between the season, it’s  not really in the end like traditional football, would you rather see that tradition go to the end of the season?

“Well you know I just think it’s a great game. It’s a non-conference game, but it’s a great game. We enjoy playing New Mexico State and New Mexico, and as long as I’m here I’m hoping to play both every year.”
