Aggies Sign Two Field Athletes
LAS CRUCES, N.M.—New Mexico State head track and field coach Orin Richburg announced Monday that two New Mexico field athletes have signed National Letters of Intent. Akuadaso Ezenyilimba (La Cueva High School) and Alexandra Winebark (Sue Cleveland High School) will join the Aggies beginning in the fall of 2013.
Ezenyilimba competed in the discus throw and shot put at La Cueva. Her best distance in the discus throw was138'4" (42.16m). In the shot put, Ezenyilimba posted a distance of 37'7" (11.45m). She was the state 5A discus champion in 2013 and also placed fifth in the shot put. Ezenyilimba also competed in the Great Southwest Classic Track Meet and finished third in the discus.
Winebark competed in discus, shot put and javelin in her high school career at Sue Cleveland High School. Winebark’s best distance in the discus throw was 126'0" (38.40m) . Her best distance in the shot put is 36'9.5" (11.21m) and her best distance in the javelin is 115'8" (35.25m). Winebark competed in the New Mexico 5A State Championship and finished second in the discus and fourth in the shot put.
“These two promising signees will add strength for the future on our women’s team,” assistant coach Larry Carmichael said. “We are especially pleased to be developing talent on our team from high school athletes in New Mexico and expect a strong contribution from both signees.”
The NM State track and field team finished their season by sending five athletes to the 2013 NCAA Preliminary round, including Kelsey Brennan who owns the all-time record for the Aggies in the javelin throw.
