Quinn Announces 2013 Soccer Schedule

Release:  06/10/2013

LAS CRUCES, N.M. (June 10)-New Mexico State soccer head coach Blair Quinn released the 2013 schedule that consists of 10 home matches. The schedule features a pair of NCAA Tournament teams from a year ago and a rivalry match in Las Cruces. The Aggies are also hosting the WAC Tournament for the first time.

“It’s a unique schedule this year,” Quinn said. “ We have a double round robin format in the WAC, which is new so that’ll be interesting to play everyone a second time and see what kind of adjustments get made by all the teams later in the season.

“Overall, I believe we have five different conference champions, regular season or tournament, on our schedule for this season. Of course, we have the rivalry game with New Mexico and then several new opponents in the WAC. It’s a good schedule for us, a competitive schedule, one that certainly has its challenges, but one that we have the potential to be very successful with as well.”

The Aggies play seven new opponents in 2013 starting with the season opener against Nebraska-Omaha (Aug. 23) in Las Cruces, Long Island (Aug. 30) and Portland State (Sept. 1) in the UNLV Tournament in Las Vegas, Nev., Stephen F. Austin (Sept. 6) in Las Cruces, and new WAC members UMKC (Sept. 20 and Sept. 22), Grand Canyon (Oct. 6 and Oct. 18) and Utah Valley (Oct. 13 and Nov. 1).

NM State hosts in-state rival New Mexico (Aug. 25) and look to bounce back after a tough 1-0 loss in double overtime last season. Following the UNLV Tournament, the Aggies host Stephen F. Austin and UC Riverside (Sept. 8). In their first meeting last year, NM State and UC Riverside played to a 1-1 tie after double overtime.

The Aggies return to the road to play Northern Colorado (Sept. 13) in Greeley, Colo., as the all-time series is split 1-1. NM State concludes non-conference action at Wyoming (Sept. 15) in Laramie, Wyo., and owns a 1-0 advantage versus the Cowgirls.

The WAC format this season consists of a home and home series with each team and has four new members with Bakersfield, Grand Canyon, UMKC and Utah Valley.

NM State opens conference play at UMKC (Sept. 20) in Kansas City, Mo., and hosts the rematch two days later in Las Cruces (Sept. 22). The Aggies meet Idaho in Moscow, Idaho, (Sept. 27) and in Las Cruces (Oct. 27) and have a 1-2-1 record against the Vandals. NM State takes on Seattle in Seattle, Wash. (Sept. 29) and in Las Cruces (Oct. 25).

The Crimson and White hosts Grand Canyon in Las Cruces (Oct. 6) and then travels to Phoenix, Ariz. (Oct. 18). The Aggies play Bakersfield in Bakersfield, Calif. (Oct. 11) and in Las Cruces (Nov. 3). The Aggies lead the series 1-0 after a 1-0 overtime win in 2012. The Aggies square off against Utah Valley in Orem, Utah (Oct. 13) and in Las Cruces (Nov. 1).

NM State hosts the WAC Tournament (Nov. 7-10) for the first time in school history and looks to return to the tournament after missing the 2012 event.
