The 7th Annual Lujan Dinner a Success
Courtesy: New Mexico State University
Release:  06/04/2013

The 7th Annual Lujan Dinner benefiting NMSU student-athlete scholarships was a huge success this past Saturday, June 1, 2013. 107 people attended to bid on 36 silent and 16 live auction items, enjoy world class margaritas from Southwest Spirits and bananas foster prepared by Shamrock Foods, and socialize with NM State celebrities.

The event was highlighted by a special address from alumni football player, Fredd Young, and current Offensive Coordinator, Gregg Brandon. Several coaches served as a backdrop for a riveting speech by President Garrey Carruthers on his first day in that role. Patrons walked away feeling like this was the best event in years. Walter Hines, an annual attendee and NM State alumnus, shared that it “was the best Lujan Dinner ever!”

Another highlight was the auction performance of Head Men’s Basketball Coach, Marvin Menzies, as he not only sold two auction items (NCAA Final Four package and the Leonard and Stephanie Armstrong Wine Package), but he led a paddle fundraiser to sell the Master’s Experience Package that saw several folks donate $1,000 each to send President Carruthers to the Lujan Cottage next April.

The generosity was high, as the funds raised in support of student-athlete scholarships was as follows:

·         Cumulative from live and silent auction = $35,247

·         Straight donations to through the Lujan Dinner = $1,025

·         AAC membership = $13,000

·         Table Sponsors = $7,500

·         Total = $56,772

Gift-in-Kind Estimate = $40,000

This was a fantastic gathering that galvanized Aggie Nation behind our journey to be the best mid-major athletic program in the country. Thank you to all our volunteers, the Manuel Lujan Agencies, and Larry and Arlene Lujan for creating a wonderful evening!
