Five Aggies to Compete in NCAA Regional Round

LAS CRUCES, N.M.—Five Aggies from the New Mexico State University track and field team are set to compete in the 2013 NCAA Regional round in Austin, Texas, on May 23-25.

Senior LaSasha Aldredge and juniors Brianna Cromartie and junior Alishia Perkins will compete in the 200-meter dash.  Aldredge and Cromartie will also compete in the 400-meter dash.

Senior Courtney Schultz is set to take part in the 10,000-meter run and junior Kelsey Brennan will compete in the javelin.

Aldrege ran her best 200-meter dash on April 6, at the Don Kirby Tailwind Invitational and finished with a time of 23.57.  She also ran her fastest 400-meter dash at this event and finished with at time of 52.59, which ranks first all-time for the Aggies.

Cromartie’s best time in the 200-meter dash came at the 2013 UTEP Invitational on April 13.  She finished with a time of 23.64.  She ran her best 400-meter dash at the Michael Johnson/Dr. Pepper Classic on April 20, and finished with a time of 53.28 and is second all-time on the Aggies’ record list.

Perkins posted her best time in the 200-meter dash at the UTEP Invitational.  She finished with a time of 23.61.

Schultz finished with her best time this season at the 55th Mt. SAC Relays on April 18 where she finished with a time of 35:07.77.  Schultz ran her fastest time for her career in 2011 at the 53rd Annual Mt. SAC Relaysand finished with a time of 34:42.21, which ranks second all-time for the Aggies.

Brennan set a new record for the Aggies in the 2013 WAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships on May 8, with a throw of 157-9 (48.08m).  She earned her third first-place finish at the WAC Championships with her throw.

The 2013 NCCA West Preliminary round is set to begin on Thursday, May 23.
