Phoenix, Ariz. – The New Mexico State men’s golf team finished overall at the ASU Thunderbird Invitational at the par-71, 7,031-yard Karsten Golf Course. The Aggies carded a team score of 8-over par, 292 in the final round and rounded out the tournament at 15-over par, 867 (289-286-292).

“Kenneth played great golf today,” head coach Mike Dirks said. “Brett and Justin had good counter scores but we just didn’t have that fourth score we needed. I think we can compete at conference, we just need to put the whole tournament together and we will be near the top at the end.”

Freshman Kenneth Fadke led NM State in the third round with a 5-under par, 66, carding three birdies, an eagle on his way to a bogey free final round. For the tournament, Fadke was 6-under par, 207 and tied for fifth overall. His 66 is the best round for him in his Aggie career and was also the lowest round of the day in the tournament.

Senior Justin Shin was 2-over par, 73 in the final round, carding four birdies. Shin tied for 30th with a three round score of 3-over par, 216 (71-72-73). Sophomore Brett Walker was also 2-over par, 73 in the final round and finished tied for 43rd for the tournament at 6-over par, 219 (75-71-73).

Junior Willy Hogan and senior Derek Baade both carded rounds of 9-over par, 80. Hogan tallied a three-round score of 15-over par, 228 (74-74-80), finishing tied for 82nd, while Baade was 16-over par, 229 for the tournament, placing tied for 85th overall.

UNLV won the team tournament at 9-under par, followed by Cal (-8), San Diego (-5), New Mexico (-2), California (-2) and San Diego State (E). Nick Chianello of Oregon State finished atop of the leader board at 11-under par.

The Aggies will now prepare for the 2013 WAC Championships, April 29-May 1 in Las Vegas, Nev.
