RALEIGH, N.C. - The New Mexico State baseball team fell 9-2 to No. 10 North Carolina State on Doak Field in Raleigh, N.C., Wednesday, Feb. 27. The Aggies fall to 3-5 on the year and the Wolfpack move to 6-1 on the season.
The Aggies posted two runs on four hits and committed three errors while NC State tallied nine runs on seven hits and marked two errors. Senior right-hand pitcher Casey Collins was credited with the loss as he threw 5.2 innings with five strikeouts, while giving up four earned runs. He is now 1-1 on the year.
NC State reliever Travis Orwig was the winning pitcher as he didn't allow a run during his four innings of work.
The Aggies fell behind 2-0 after the first inning but pulled to within one run when senior shortstop Parker Hipp posted a sacrifice fly to centerfield that scored junior leftfielder Quinnton Mack, who got on base with a single through the left side. That would be the last time NM State would score, although they threatened to score in the seventh inning leaving two runners aboard.
