LAS CRUCES, N.M. (Feb. 13, 2013) - New Mexico State women's golf team head coach Jackie Booth has added a ninth member to her squad for this season's spring schedule.
Freshman Viviana Macias comes to NM State from Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. As a junior golfer in Mexico, she played in tournaments both in her home country and also in the United States.
"Vivi will help this spring, she has played in several international tournaments," Booth said. "That experience has given her the confidence necessary to compete at the collegiate level."
In 2011, Macias was ranked as the second-best junior golfer in Mexico and had an opportunity to play alongside fellow Mexican golfer Lorena Ochoa, one of the top players on the LPGA tour.
In 2010, Macias finished second at the Texas Junior Golf Tour's University of Texas Invitational and seventh at the Texas-Oklahoma Junior Golf Tournament. That same year she was invited to participate in the American Junior Golf Association's World Championships, consisting of the best junior golfers in the world. Macias would finish 30th in the tournament.
It won't take long for Macias to make her Aggie debut as Booth has chosen Macias to be part of the team that will travel to California this weekend to start off the spring schedule.
NM State will compete at the Folino Invitational hosted by Cal-State Fullerton beginning on Sunday (Feb. 17).
