MESA, Ariz. - The New Mexico State baseball team fell 15-8 to Fresno State on day two of the Western Athletic Conference Tournament at Hohokam Stadium in Mesa, Ariz., Thursday, May 24.

The Aggies posted three errors in the top of the second and Fresno State took advantage of that scoring 10 runs on nine hits in the inning.  The first error was a fielding error by the NM State starting shortstop and the second was on the same play as the shortstop attempted to stay with the ball and make a play but threw it past the first baseman.

Fresno State then scored two runs on four hits in the top of the third and took a 12-0 lead, which made it seem like the game was over by then but it wasn't.  The Aggie relievers sat down 10-of-12 batters from the fourth through sixth innings to give their team a chance.

NM State jumped on that chance scoring six runs on six hits in the sixth as the Bulldogs also committed two errors.  Senior Kurt Snowley and junior Kyle Phillips each marked two RBIs, and junior Cody Edwards and sophomore Tanner Rust tallied an RBI a piece.

After Fresno State posted a run in the seventh the Aggies followed that scoring two runs on two hits with senior Tanner Waite coming up with an RBI on a sacrifice fly and senior Bryan Karraker got an RBI a double to right centerfield.

"We can't get down by that many runs and expect to win a game," head coach Rocky Ward said.  "The positive I saw in the game is that the guys didn't quit and scored some runs later in the game."

NM State is now 35-21 on the year after marking eight runs on 12 hits with four errors and the Bulldogs are now 27-25 after putting up 15 runs on 20 hits to go along with two errors.

The Aggies now look forward to taking on No. 6 seed Louisiana Tech in an elimination game at 12pm (MT). Fans can catch the action on the radio in Las Cruces on KSNM AM 570 or online at NMStateSports.com.
