NM State Bench to Return to West Sideline

LAS CRUCES – The NM State football team will once again use the bench location on the west side of Aggie Memorial Stadium in the 2012 season.  The WAC rule which had prohibited the visiting bench from being in front of a student section has been rescinded.

“After consulting with Coach Walker and several stakeholders, we have decided to return the team bench to its historical location,” said director of athletics Dr. McKinley Boston.

The WAC rule was instituted prior to the 2006 football season and forced Fresno State, Louisiana Tech, Nevada and New Mexico State to move their team benches.  Despite strong opposition to the rule by both New Mexico State and Louisiana Tech, the measure passed by a 7-2 vote of the WAC Board of Directors.

New Mexico State requested that the rule be changed and it recently passed without opposition, which cleared the way for the Aggies to return to the West sideline.
