Aggies wrap up UTEP Invitational with new records

EL PASO, TEXAS-The New Mexico State University track and field team wrapped up the UTEP Invitational on Saturday, April 14, highlighted with a first-place finish by junior LaSasha Aldredge in the 400m.

Aldredge finished first overall in the 400m with a time of 54.77, which was less than one second off from breaking the all-time school record.  Two other Aggies finished in the top 10 for this event.  Sophomore Zoe Meade finished sixth overall and senior Melanie Clay finished 10th overall.

Sophomore Alishia Perkins finished her events with impressive marks.  Perkins finished eighth overall in the 100m with a time of 11.79, bumping her up to fourth all-time for NM State.  Perkins also finished third overall in the 200m with a time of 24.49.

Other finishes of note include senior Madelyn Stoltze finishing third overall in the 1,500m, senior Jndia Cleveland finishing eighth overall in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.13, a fourth-place overall finish by senior Kelsey Brennan in the javelin, and freshman Taylor Black with a pole vault mark of 3.32m, placing her third all-time in the NM State record books.

"This meet gave us a good chance to see where to place our athletes so they will have the biggest impact when the conference meet comes around," said head track and field coach Orin Richburg.

NM State faced strong teams from all over the Midwest during the meet.  Notable schools include Kansas, Kansas State, Nebraska, Rice University and New Mexico.

The Aggies will travel to Waco, Texas, for the Michael Johnson/Baylor Invitational on Friday, April 20.
