DENVER - The New Mexico State baseball team (34-22, 9-15 WAC) heads to the 2011 Western Athletic Conference Tournament as the No. 6 seed after splitting a four-game series with Hawai'i this past weekend in Las Cruces.

The Aggies are set to face No. 3 seed Louisiana Tech (32-25, 12-12 WAC)  in the first round of play, Wednesday, May 25 at 8:00 p.m. (MT) at Hohokam Stadium in Mesa, Ariz.  The Bulldogs tied for third with Nevada (23-29, 12-12 WAC) but the Bulldogs won the tiebreaker over the Wolf Pack for the No. 3 seed by winning three out of the four games played between the two teams this season.

NM State traveled to Ruston La., April 8 - 10 to take on the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs in a four game series and split the series 2-2.

In game one of the series the Aggies defeated the Bulldogs 4-2. Sophomore left-hand pitcher Ryan Beck went eight innings with three strikeouts and took his record to 6-2 on the year. Junior closer Scott Coffman came in for the ninth inning and picked up save No. 5 of the year.

In Saturday's doubleheader the Aggies fell to the Bulldogs 7-0 in the first game, but came back and won the second game 7-5. In the first game pitcher Trey Ross fell to 5-2 on the year after working 4 1/3 innings, with two strikeouts and giving up seven runs. In the second game of the doubleheader right-hand pitcher Tyler Mack took the win when he came in during the second inning to work seven innings and only one run. In the series finale NM State was held scoreless for the fourth time this season (second time in the series) when the Bulldogs defeated the Aggies 10-0. Pitcher Dan Reid went 4 1/3 innings and struck out six batters before he took a line drive off his non-throwing hand pulling him out of the game. That was Reid's first loss of the year.

The Aggies are 17-11 against La. Tech all-time and went into the series winning seven straight against the Bulldogs.   NM State and the Bulldogs have face off only one other time in the WAC Tournament with the Aggies pulling out a 6-5 win over LA Tech in 2009 when the tournament was held in Honolulu.
