LAS CRUCES, N.M.-The New Mexico State men’s and women’s basketball teams in conjunction with the Bank of the West presented Jardin de los Ninos with a check for $1,980, Wednesday, May 26, at the Fulton Center. The Aggies partnered with the bank to donate $5 for every 3-point basket made in the 2009-10 season to the local shelter.
Men’s head coach Marvin Menzies, women’s assistant coach Tony Giannotti, NM State Associate Athletics Director/Senior Woman Administrator Maria Roth and Bank of the West CBO Relationship Manager Vice President Shirley Hitson presented the check to Jardin de los Ninos Executive Director Shirley Jaquez.
“It was our honor to be able to adopt Jardin de los Ninos as our charity,” Menzies said. “They are such a worthy recipient of this check because of everything they do in the community for children in need.”
This season, the Aggie men made a school record 287 3-pointers en route to a WAC Tournament Championship and NCAA Tournament appearance, while the NM State women sank 206 3-pointers with a WNIT appearance, which was their first trip to the postseason since 1994.
Jardin de los Ninos’ mission is to create new possibilities for homeless and near homeless children and their families through loving childcare, education, and the use of community resources.
