LAS CRUCES, N.M. -- New Mexico State men's tennis senior Gustave Diep was named to the 2010 ESPN the Magazine Academic All-America District VI first team, Thursday, May 20, by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). This is the third straight season that Diep has been named to the academic all-district first team, becoming the first player in program history to so.
Diep is an at-large selection and now qualifies for the all-America team, which will be announced June 9. He is a native of Paris, France and carries a 4.0 cumulative G.P.A. in pre-medicine.
"If you could pick the ideal student-athlete to recruit Gustave fits that description," assistant head Carlos Vargas said. "He took care of all his classroom responsibilities and then gave you 100 percent in practice and in matches. He was that type of student-athlete from the day he stepped foot on campus until the day he graduated."
Diep, who is a two-time All-WAC selection in singles (2007 and 2008), went 6-9 in singles dual matches for the Aggies in 2010, earning an 11-13 overall record for the entire season.
