Equestrian Heads to NCEA National Championships

LAS CRUCES, N.M. -The New Mexico State equestrian team will head out to Waco, Texas, April 17-19 for the 2014 National Collegiate Equestrian Association National Championship, at the Extraco Events Center. The Aggies will be the No. 7 seed and will face No. 10 SMU in the first round on Friday morning. The winner will take on No. 2 Oklahoma State on Friday.

"We are excited and prepared for the Championship this week," head coach Robin Morris-Walters said. "All of the riders have been practicing very well and are ready for competition on Thursday."

The Aggies finished the regular season with a 9-5 overall record and a 4-1 record at home. NM State defeated SMU at home during the regular season, 11-7 but did not face Oklahoma State this season.

Competing for the Western team in Waco, Texas will be Courtney Cruse, Lauren DeVoe, Rianna Storey, Clarissa Edgerton, Jessica Woolsey, Bryn Larson, Tara Wilson, Marissa Bartmann, Hayley Newkirk, Jamie Story and Stefanie Story.

The Hunter Seat squad will be represented by Emily McConnell, Julie Frey, Amber Tassel, Shannon Dooley, Hannah Swarthout and Elizabeth Solomon.
