NM State Equestrian Beats WTAM in Regular Season Finale

Las Cruces, N.M. – The New Mexico State equestrian team beat West Texas A&M in the 2013-14 regular season finale, 16-4, at the NM State Equestrian Center. The Aggies head into the national championships with a 9-5 record.

“This was a very good end to our season,” head coach Robin Morris-Walters said. “It gives us some momentum heading into nationals next month.”

On the day, the Hunter Seat team won 9-1, while the Western team was victorious, 7-3. The Equitation on the Flat squad and the Horsemanship team both sweep their respective events. Three Aggies earned MOP honors on the final day of the regular season.

In Hunter Seat, the Equitation on the Flat team won 5-0, led by Hannah Swarthout, who was named MOP. She defeated Reilly Milbauer of WTAMU, 90-79. Amber Tassel, Emily McConnell, Shannon Dooley and Julie Frey all earned points for the Aggies in Equitation on the Flat as well.

Tassel would earn MOP honors in Equitation over Fences, beating WTAMU’s Chelsea Hilliard, 85-64. McConnell earned her second win of the day in the over fence event, while Elizabeth Solomon and Cori Cromwell both grabbed points for the Aggies, as the Equitation over Fences squad won 4-1.

The Western team was led by the Horsemanship group. Clarissa Edgerton was named MOP with a win over Kayla Wells of WTAMU, 74.5-73. Jessica Woolsey, Courtney Cruce, Rianna Storey and Lauren DeVoe all took their head-to-head victory, helping the Aggies sweep the event.

In Reining, The Aggies lost 2-3, as Jaimie Story defeated Angela Bradley, 71-70 and Tara Wilson won 72-64.5 over Camille Graupman.

The Aggies will be back in action on April 18 in Waco, Texas for the 2014 National Collegiate Equestrian Association National Championships.
