LAS CRUCES, N.M.—The New Mexico State track and field team begins its 2014 outdoor season on Saturday, March 22, in El Paso, Texas at the UTEP Springtime.

The Aggies come off an indoor campaign that saw the team relying heavily on underclassmen talent, especially the freshman class.

Many improvements were made throughout the season and the 23 athletes worked their way into the top 10 in several different events for the Aggies’ all-time records.

The underclassmen were led by freshmen Paige Patterson and Akuadasou Ezenyilimba. Patterson found herself ranked in the top 10 all-time in the 55, 200, and 400-meter dash as well as the 4x400-meter relay. Ezenyilimba was able to work at the 20-pound weight throw and earn the ninth spot for the Aggies all-time.

Junior Diana Hawk helped lead the way for the upperclassmen and ended the indoor season on a high note as she won the individual championship in the 1-mile run during the 2014 WAC Indoor Championships (Feb. 28).

NM State now prepares to continue the improvement as they move outdoors in a season that will see seven of their eight meets take place in Texas, including two in El Paso. The Aggies will also travel to Albuquerque, N.M., for the Don Kirby Invitational on May 2.

After the opening meet in El Paso, the Aggies will travel to San Marcos, Texas for the Bobcat Invitational on March 27.
