FRESNO, CALIF. – New Mexico State softball team dropped its final game of the weekend 1-0 against Cal Poly on Sunday, March 16. The Aggies finished the Fresno State Classic 2-3 and move to 17-14 this season.

The Aggies saw just one hit on the day against the Mustangs, while allowing five from redshirt sophomore Karysta Donisthorpe. The right-hander went the distance for NM State and tallied four strikeouts with just one walk.

The Aggies got just one runner on base off a walk in the first and were shut down in order in the next three innings. The lone hit of the game came in the top half of the fifth after junior Chelsea Dohrwardt walked on base and was brought around to third off a sacrifice bunt and a single by senior Alyssa Ruiz. The two Aggie base runners were left stranded as Cal Poly’s Sierra Hyland tossed 11 strikeouts on the day.

The Mustangs took the 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first when a triple put a runner in scoring position and she was brought around with a double by Hyland. The Mustangs saw a couple more hits in the game, but NM State was able to stop another run from scoring.

NM State will square off against I-25 rival, New Mexico on March 19 at 5:30 p.m. at the NM State Softball Complex. The Lobos have an overall record of 8-16 on the season while the Aggies are 15-10.
