NM State Falls to Stephen F. Austin 5-2

NACOGDOCHES, Texas -- The New Mexico State women’s tennis team fell 5-2 to Stephan F. Austin on Friday, Feb. 28. The Aggies move to 4-6 on the season.

SFA grabbed the doubles point, defeating the Aggies 8-5 at the No. 1 spot and 8-1 at the third court. Court three was left unfinished with senior Annemieke Witte and sophomore Ashvarya Shrivastava battling at 6-6 before the match was called.

NM State picked up two wins in singles play/ At the No. 4 court, Shrivastava defeated Valeria Terentyeva in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3. The other Aggie victory came at the fifth position when senior Witte won 6-4, 6-3.

The Aggies battled at the other singles courts with junior Denise Van Der Ben taking her match to a tiebreaker before falling 7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (7-5).

NM State now heads to Houston, Texas to meet Rice at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 1 and Texas A&M Corpus Christi at 9 a.m. on Sunday.
