TUCSON, ARIZ. – The New Mexico State women’s tennis team dropped its second match of the season 5-2 to San Francisco on Monday, Feb. 3.

Starting with doubles play, the Aggies were defeated on each of the three courts. At the No. 1 court, juniors Susana Alcaraz and Denise Van Der Ben paired up to battle to a 6-4 loss, while the Aggie duo at court two, sophomore Mia Brandt and freshman Brittany Collens fell 6-2. On the third doubles court, sophomore Ashvarya Sriastava and senior Annemieke Witte dropped their match 6-3.

With San Francisco holding the doubles point, the teams took to singles play where Collens and Witte won their respective matches, although it was not enough to hold off the Dons.

Witte took her match to three sets before beating out Milica Hadzi-Tanovic 6-3, 4-6, 10-4 at the fifth position. Collens also went three sets for her win at court six, coming out with a 3-6, 7-5, 10-4 win.

While four other Aggies fell, it was a battle at court No. 1 as Alcaraz faced Thyra Taune who is ranked No. 116 in the country. The Aggie junior fell in two sets (6-1, 6-0).
