NM State Equestrian beats TCU, 9-6

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The No. 6 ranked New Mexico State Equestrian team continued its hot streak on Friday afternoon by defeating No. 3 TCU, 9-6, for its sixth straight victory, moving the team to 8-2 overall on the season. The Aggies picked up two Most Outstanding Players on the afternoon.

The Hunter Seat team tied TCU 4-4, as the Equitation on the Flat went 3-1 and Equitation over Fences went 1-3.

In the Flat event, Hannah Swarthout was MOP, beating Nikki Diamantas, 74-66, as Julie Frey won her head-to-head match-up over Caitlin Ader, 58-56. Emily McConnell earned the final point for the Aggies in the Flat event with a 66-61 win over Molly Peddicord.

The Aggies has only one winning in Equitation over Fences, as Amber Tassel beat Kaitlin Perry, 80-74.

In the Western competition, the Aggies won 5-2 overall, going 3-1 in Horsemanship and 2-1 in Reining.

Lauren DeVoe earned MOP honors in Horsemanship with a 74-72 win over Calli Rouse, while Clarissa Edgerton beat Erin Gillette, 72.5-71.5. Rianna Storey rounded out the Horsemanship riders with a 72.5-71 victory over Katie Gray.

Brynn Larson and Haley Newkirk both earned points for the Aggies in Reining. Larson defeated Gray, 69.5-67, while Newkirk beat Chantz Stewart, 71.5-69.5.

The Aggies will take on South Dakota State beginning at 10 a.m., Saturday, at the NM State Equestrian Center.
