Aggie Women's Golf Opens 2013-14 Season, Monday-Tuesday in Utah

LAS CRUCES, N.M. (Sept. 6, 2013) – The New Mexico State women’s golf team opens its 31st season at the Hobble Creek Invitational, Monday-Tuesday, Sept. 9-10 at the Hobble Creek Golf Course in Springville, Utah.

The 2013-14 season begins with a 14-team field that includes BYU, Utah Valley, Bakersfield, Cal State Northridge, Gonzaga, Grand Canyon, Idaho State, New Mexico State, San Francisco, Santa Clara, Southern Utah, Weber State as well British Columbia (NAIA) and Dixie State (DII) will all be competing.

“We are excited to start a new year,” head coach Jackie Booth said.  “We have three outstanding freshmen joining us this fall and I foresee all of them playing a big part in the team achieving the goals we have set for this year.  We have eight outstanding players who will battle for our five team traveling spots.  The competition will make each player dig deep and that will help us be a much better team this year. We are ready to Aggie Up!”

Playing in the opening tournament is sophomore Kacey Dalpes, junior Laura Barron, junior Paige Darwin, freshman Valeria Macias, and sophomore Viviana Macias. 

Dalpes played in all 10 tournaments during the 2012-13 season and was the Aggies’ top finisher in eight of those tournaments, including the WAC Women’s Golf Championship. Barron Barron only missed one tournament during the 2012-13 season, participating in nine of 10 tournaments, including the WAC Women’s Golf Championship (Apr. 22-24) where she finished in a tie for 25th place.  She finished third on the Aggie squad in scoring average (81.52). 

Darwin finished her first season as part of the NM State women’s golf team by competing in six of 10 tournaments.  Viviana Macias joined the NM State team during the spring semester and participated in all five spring tournaments, including the WAC Women’s Golf Championship.  Valeria Macias is the sister of Viviana and is making her first career appearance on the course for NM State.

The Hobble Creek Golf Course is a par-71 2,795 yard course.  Live stats will be available online at www.GolfStat.com. Recaps will be available at the conclusion of each day’s play at www.NMStateSports.com.
