Aggies Conclude Season at NCAA Regional Round

AUSTIN, Texas—The NM State track and field team ends their 2013 outdoor season in the NCAA Regional Round on Saturday, May 25, in Austin, Texas.

Senior Kelsey Brenann was the final athlete to compete in the regional round for the Aggies.  Brenann took to the field to compete in javelin and ended with a distance of 146-03 (44.58m), which ranked 22nd out of 48 competitors, but was unable to qualify for the NCAA Final Round.

Brenann leaves NM State as the all-time leader in the javelin with a throw of 157-9 (48.08m) that she set at the 2013 WAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships (5/8).

The Aggies sent five athletes to the 2013 NCAA Regional Round led by seniors Brenann, LaSasha Aldredge and Courtney Schultz with juniors Alishia Perkins and Brianna Cromartie rounding out the team.

Aldredge and Cromartie competed in the 200-meter dash and both advanced to the semi-final round.  They also competed, along with Perkins, in the preliminary round of the 400-meter dash.

“Overall, we did well, and a meet of this caliber really gives great experience on what it takes to compete at this level,” assistant coach Christopher Huff said, “It gives our girls exposure to this atmosphere and they know what it takes to advance into the deeper rounds.”
