NM State Menís Golf 11th at NCAA Regional

TEMPE, Ariz. – The New Mexico State men’s golf team carded a first round score of 5-over par, 285, in the NCAA Regional Tournament at the par-70, 7,036-yard ASU Karsten Golf Course in Tempe, Ariz. The Aggies are currently 11th overall.

Senior Justin Shin led Nm State with an even-par, 70, tying him for 23rd overall. Shin carded four birdies in his first round of play.

Sophomore Brett Walker and senior Derek Baade each shot 1-over par, 71 in round one, placing them in a tied for 28th. Walker was 2-over par after the first nine holes but rallied with a 1-under par in the back nine. Baade put together a nice round on the day with three birdies.

Junior Willy Hogan finished 3-over par, 73, recording two birdies in the round. He is tied for 45th.

Freshman Kenneth Fadke struggled in round one with a 7-over par, 77. Fadke was 7-over after nine but shot even par in the final nine holes of the round, including two birdies.

UCLA leads the tournament at 12-under par, followed by Duke (-2), Austin Peay State (-1), Georgia (E), Texas A&M (E), North Carolina (E), Clemson (E) and UCF (E). Autin Peay State’s Dustin Korte and UCLA’s Pontus Widegren leads the tournament at 6-under par.

The regional will continue tomorrow morning with the second round. Aggie fans can watch the action at www.golfstat.com
