LAS CRUCES, N.M. (April 3)-New Mexico State soccer head coach Blair Quinn has signed forward/midfielder Salina Lucero to a National Letter of Intent. She becomes the eighth member of the Class of 2013.
Lucero joins midfielder/forward Gabby Campbell, defender Melissa Canizalez, goalkeeper Tayler Hammack, forward Devin Hart, defender/midfielder Stephanie Petre, goalkeeper Taylor Rice and defender Maggie Sabik in the class.
"We've added Salina to the class and are very excited about it," Quinn said. "She is really good at pressing the other team's defenders into turnovers and causing problems. Salina is kind of like the fly at the barbeque. She is just annoying and buzzing around and buzzing around, and she causes problems. She is going to be a really good addition to our front line in terms of her quickness and her overall energy level."
Lucero was a three-year standout at Sandia High School in Albuquerque, N.M. She concluded her career with 34 goals and 12 assists for the Matadors. Lucero was a three-time first team all-district, first team all-state and first team all-metro selection. As a senior, she led Sandia to a third-place finish in the district and 10th-place finish in the state following a 13-7-0 record. In both 2010 and 2011, Lucero guided the Matadors to metro and district titles. Sandia finished 19-1-0 her junior season and 17-3-0 her sophomore season.
