Aggies set for tough road weekend

LAS CRUCES, N.M. (March 26) – The New Mexico state men’s tennis team hits the road for a weekend of four matches from March 27-31. The Aggies kick off the week against Montana on Wednesday afternoon before meeting Gonzaga on Thursday in Spokane, Wash. The team then heads to meet Western Athletic Conference foe Idaho in Moscow, Idaho, in Friday, March 29, before ending the weekend back in Spokane against Eastern Washington on Sunday.

NM State heads into the dual-filled week with a 9-4 record after falling most recently to No. 42 Texas Tech. Three of the Aggies’ four losses have come against ranked opponents.

The Aggies open the week against Montana (4-4) 3-0 Big Sky) on Wednesday afternoon. The Griz are on a three-match winning streak right now with two coming against conference opponents.

NM State then meets Gonzaga on Thursday. The Zags have a 6-9 record with a current five-match losing streak. Gonzaga is led by Alvaro Nazal, who goes into the match with six consecutive singles wins.

On Friday, March 29, the Aggies make the short trip to Moscow, Idaho to face WAC foe No. 62 Idaho. NM State goes into that match with just a 1-0 conference record, while the Vandals are 2-0 with an overall record of 17-2. Their only two losses have come to No. 40 Oregon and No. 46 Boise State.

The Aggies finish up the weekend back in Washington as they meet Eastern Washington on Sunday, March 31. The Eagles are 5-9 this season and has not seen action since March 12.

NM State’s match on Wednesday is scheduled for 2 p.m. The Friday dual versus Idaho is slated for 6 p.m. and the weekend closer is set to get swinging at 10 a.m. on Sunday, March 31. Keep up with scores and results at NMStateSports.com
