Aggies Host UT Arlington on Senior Night

The New Mexico State men's basketball team concludes the regular season at home against UT Arlington, Saturday, March 9 at 7 p.m. The game is an AggieVision production with Jeff Matthews and Glen Cerny. The game can be heard on the Aggie Sports Network and KGRT 104 FM in Las Cruces with the 'Voice of the Aggies' Jack Nixon, and the pregame show starts 30 minutes prior to tip. The game is also available in Spanish with Edgar Gardell on Vista 98.7 FM Saturday's game is shown live on Comcast across New Mexico and ESPN3 and tape delayed in Las Cruces until 10 p.m. This game is the U.S. Bank/NM State Hall of Fame night with a halftime presentation to honor legendary coaches Presley Askew, Lou Henson, Jerry Hines and Warren Woodson. It's also senior night with a postgame celebration to honor Bandja Sy and Tyrone Watson.

New Mexico State Aggies

The Aggies have a 20-10 overall record and 13-4 WAC record after downing Louisiana Tech, 78-60, March 7 in Las Cruces. Sophomore guard Daniel Mullings is leading the team with 14.0 points per game. Senior forward Bandja Sy is also in double figures with 11.6 points and 7.4 rebounds per game. Senior forward Tyrone Watson and freshman center Sim Bhullar add 10.8 and 10.1 points per contest, respectively.

Scouting UT Arlington

The Mavericks are 17-11 and 11-6 in the WAC. UT Arlington fell at Denver, 84-55, March 7. Senior forward Kevin Butler is leading the Mavericks with 10.6 points per game. The Mavericks have secured the No. 4 seed in the WAC Tournament and face Utah State, March 14 in Las Vegas.

Series Notes

The Aggies lead the all-time series 10-2, but UT Arlington won the conference opener, 68-47, Dec. 29, 2012 in Arlington, Texas.

Previous Game

For the first time in a WAC opening game, NM State suffered a 68-47 loss at UT Arlington, Dec. 29. The Aggies are 5-1 in conference openers under head coach Marvin Menzies. Sophomore guard Daniel Mullings scored a game-high 21 points for the Aggies with his fourth 20-point effort of the season. Freshman center Sim Bhullar was also in double figures with 14 points and a career-high five blocked shots.

Aggies Derail Louisiana Tech

NM State snapped Louisiana Tech's 18-game winning streak, which was the nation's longest, with a 78-60 victory, March 7 in Las Cruces. The Aggies also handed the Bulldogs their first loss in the WAC. Sophomore guard Daniel Mullings scored a game-high 23 points on 50 percent shooting from the field (7-of-14) and 80 percent (8-of-10) shooting at the free-throw line. This was Mullings' second-best scoring performance of the season. Senior forward Tyrone Watson recorded his first double-double of the season with 12 points and 11 rebounds, which ties a season-high mark. Senior forward Bandja Sy added 12 points, and sophomore guard Terrel de Rouen provided 10. With the win, the Aggies recorded their 26th 20-win season in school history along with the most wins in conference play (13) since joining the WAC. Head coach Marvin Menzies now has four 20-win seasons in his six years at NM State.

WAC Tournament Seeding

After the March 7 games, the Aggies are locked into the No. 3 seed in the WAC Tournament in Las Vegas. NM State faces No. 6 seed Idaho, Thursday, March 14 at 1 p.m.
