LAS CRUCES, N.M. (Feb. 8)—The New Mexico State women’s tennis team swings into action for the 2013 spring season this weekend, Feb. 8-10, with three games in Las Vegas, Nev.
The Aggies face the University of Nevada-Las Vegas Friday at 11 a.m. (MST), followed on Saturday by a game against Weber State and concluding the weekend with play against Pacific on Sunday.
“After three weeks of practice, it’s very exciting to start competing,” head coach Ivan Fernandez said. “The team has been working very hard to prepare for this weekend.”
With a fresh lineup for NM State in 2013, seniors Ginet Pinero and Jodie Williams take the lead for the Aggies. Returning players Denise Van Der Ben, Annemieke Witte and Ros-Polly Nguyen strengthen NM State’s core, while freshmen Lisa Roslanova and Mia Brandt round out the Aggie squad.
In 2012, the Aggies began their season with the same opponents, falling to UNLV (6-1) and Pacific (5-2), but claiming a 6-1 win over Weber State.
The Aggies concluded the 2012 regular season with a 12-8 record in head coach Ivan Fernandez' second season as head coach. NM State finished the year 1-2 against Western Athletic Conference (WAC) opponents, good for the No. 4 seed in the WAC tournament hosted by the Aggies last April.
Each of the Aggies three games this weekend start at 11 a.m., kicking off on Friday, Feb. 8.
