LAS CRUCES, N.M. (Jan. 29)-The New Mexico State swimming and diving team hosts in-state rival New Mexico, Saturday, Feb. 2 at noon in the regular season finale at the NM State Natatorium. The meet is also senior day for the Aggies.
"UNM has a tough team and much energy under its new coach Kunio Kono," head coach Rick Pratt said. "They have speed and are deep in the stroke events. For us to win, we're going to have to step up and win the close races. Being at home is certainly an advantage, and it will be an emotional day as it is the last dual meet for our four seniors.
"We've had a great January, and I am very pleased with the way we've been swimming this semester," he said. "This is an important meet, and it's our last chance to race before conference so I am expecting a great meet."
The Aggies are honoring their four seniors, Kirsta Bezenek, Alex Fenton, Haley Gansneder and Karen Philpot.
This is the second meeting of the season between the rivals. NM State is looking to avenge a 195-138 loss in Albuquerque, Nov. 2-3, which was its first loss to the Lobos since the 2006-07 season.
Admission to the meet is free.
