Aggies Set School Record in 82-62 Win

LAS CRUC ES, N.M. (Jan. 3)-With a strong second-half start, the New Mexico State men's basketball team defeated UTSA, 82-62. The Aggies (7-8, 1-2 WAC) broke the school record for team field goal percentage, which stood for 39 years.

NM State shot 68.6 percent from the field (35-of-51) and broke the previous record of 66.2 percent from Jan. 19, 1974. The Aggies were also one shy of tying the school record for blocked shots with 11 against the Roadrunners (4-9, 0-3).

Senior forward Bandja Sy scored a career-high 25 points on 9-of-12 shooting. He also had eight rebounds, three blocks and two assists. Freshman center Sim Bhullar added 15 points on 7-of-8 shooting along with three blocked shots. He helped the Aggies to a 30-point advantage in points in the paint, 48-18.

Sophomore guard Daniel Mullings was also in double figures with 14 points on 6-of-8 shooting. He added four steals and four assists. NM State posted a season-high 21 assists.

The Aggies had a 38-32 halftime advantage in their WAC home opener. Bhullar led all scorers with a game-high 12 points.

In NM State's first home game in nearly two weeks, the Aggies started strong and hit their first six of nine shots. The Crimson and White went on to shoot 62.1 percent from the field in the first half (18-for-29).

The Aggies opened the second half with a 12-0 run in the first four minutes for an 18-point lead, 50-32, and didn't look back.

The Aggies host Texas State, Saturday, Jan. 5 at 7 p.m.
