LAS CRUCES, N.M. (Dec 6) - Seven New Mexico State softball players were named to the 2011-12 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-America Scholar-Athlete list for their performance in the classroom the NFCA announced Thursday afternoon.

Ayssa Vargas (Gilbert, Ariz.), Amber Olive (Simi Valley, Calif.), Shaleese Javillo (Kohala, Hawai'i), Karysta Donisthorpe (Farmington, N.M.), Teresa Conrad (Los Angeles, Calif.) and Brittany Clifton (Simi Valley, Calif.) were among those selected for the honor.

The award is given to any player submitted by a member coach who achieved a 3.50 grade point average or higher during the 2011-12 academic year.  The honor is the second component of the NFCA's academic award program.  In October, the teams with the highest GPAs in each membership category were recognized as 2012 NFCA Top Ten All-Academic Teams.

The Aggies begin their season with the Hotel Encanto Tournament on Feb. 8, at the NM State Softball Complex.
