LAS CRUCES, N.M.-Senior Courtney Schultz of the New Mexico State University women's cross country team was named Western Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week for the week of Sept. 24-30.
Schultz, a senior from Cloudcroft, N.M. (Cloudcroft HS), posted one of her best career results when she finished second overall at the Rim Rock Collegiate Invitational in Lawrence, Kan., with a time of 20:30.90 in the 6K. Schultz finished just one second behind Rebecca Addison of Michigan who finished first overall. Schultz now owns the second-best record all-time for that particular course design. The third-place finisher crossed the finish line 15 seconds behind Schultz.
Schultz assisted the Aggies place fifth overall at the meet, finishing above some of the strongest programs in the Midwest region, such as Kansas, Kansas State, Texas Tech and Nebraska.
This is the second time Schultz has earned the award of WAC Athlete of the Week. Schultz was named WAC Athlete of the Week for the first week of the cross country season (Aug. 27-Sept. 2) when she placed first overall at the Lobo Invitational with a time of 18:11.9 in the 5K.
