FORT COLLINS, Colo. (Sept. 11, 2012) - The New Mexico State women's golf team wrapped up the Colonel Wollenberg's Ram Classic at the Ptarmigan Country Club shooting an 18-over-par 306 during the final round of the tournament on Tuesday.  The Aggies finished with a total score of 943 (320-317-306), placing them in 17th place overall.

Texas Tech, the only team to finish under par, dominated the 17-team tournament and finished with a 4-under-par 860 (289-286-285), 27 strokes ahead of second place Baylor who finished with a 23-over-par 887 (297-294-296).

Individually, New Mexico's Manon DeRoey held off a trio of Texas Tech golfers to earn a four-stroke victory.  DeRoey finished with a 9-under par 207 (69-68-70).

Although the results are not what NM State had hoped for, the Aggies did improve throughout the tournament.

As a team, NM State's scores improved after each round.  Individually, all five golfers had a productive final round as four of the five improved their standing from the first day of the tournament.

The most impressive showing for the Aggies was by freshman Kacey Dalpes who finished with a team-high 11-over-par 227 (77-75-75) total score, placing her in a tie for 30th place.  Dalpes, playing in her first tournament for NM State, matched her second-round 75 in the final round and once again, as in the first two rounds, had a couple of birdies during the round.

Senior Aileen Meredith finished with a total score of 19-over-par 235 (78-81-76).

Meredith tied Dalpes with a team-high six birdies, including four birdies in the final round.  Her 4-over-par final round score moved her up 10 spots from the second round as she finished in 62nd.

Sophomore Laura Barron finished in 82nd with a total score of 30-over-par 246 (83-87-76).  Her best round was also the final round where she, like Meredith, finished at 4-over-par.  Junior Amelie Buhl finished at 33-over-par 249 (82-79-88), which put her in a tie for 85th.  She had three birdies during her final round.  Unfortunately for Buhl, she also had five double bogeys and one triple bogey during the round.  Rounding out the Aggie golfers was fifth-year senior Cheryl Lo who finished tied for 87th with a 35-over-par 251 (90-82-79).  Lo also had her best round of the tournament on the final day, shooting a 7-over-par 79.  Lo had five double bogeys or worse on the first day of play, she had none during the final round.

The Aggies now look forward to participate in the Marilynn Smith Sunflower Invitational hosted by Kansas University.  The three-round tournament will be held Sept. 24-25 at the Alvamar Golf and Country Club located in Lawrence, Kan.
