Aggies Tied For 11th After First Round of Cowgirl Classic

CHANDLER, Ariz. (April 9, 2012) - The New Mexico State women's golf team sits in a tie for 11th with Boise State after round one of the 24-team Wyoming Cowgirl Classic, which is being played on the Ocotillo Golf Resort in Chandler, Ariz., a par 72, 6,184 yard course.

NM State tallied a 305 in round one with sophomore Demi Mak leading the way with a 2-over-par 74 to finish the afternoon in a tie for 14th as she tallied one birdie, 14 pars and three bogeys.

Iowa leads all teams with a 1-over-par 28, while Colorado State is in second place three stokes behind the Hawkeyes. Sacramento State is in third with a 6-over-par 294, and WAC member Nevada is in fourth place with a 7-over-par 295.

"This is a great tournament to be in before we head to the conference tournament," head coach Paul Brilliant said.  "The field provides great competition and we will be playing in the same area so overall this is good for us."

Senior Ashley Elias is tied for 37th with a 4-over-par 76 as she came in with 11 pars and two birdies. Junior Aileen Meredith is tied for 52th with a 5-over-par 77 and sophomore Lindsay Reeve is just one stroke behind her in a tie for 68th.  Sophomore Amelie Buhl rounds out the Aggie lineup as she finished in a tie for 102 with an 82.
