LAS CRUCES, N.M. (Feb. 25)-The New Mexico State men's basketball team defeated San Jose State, 79-68, in the home finale.
The Aggies (22-8, 9-3) had four players in double-figures on senior night. Senior center Hamidu Rahman tied a career-high with 22 points and 10 rebounds for his second double-double of the year. Redshirt senior forward Wendell McKines recorded his 16th double-double of the season and 43rd of his career with 20 points and 15 rebounds.
Senior guard Hernst Laroche added 11 points, while freshman guard Daniel Mullings scored 10 points. NM State finished the 2011-12 home slate with a 14-3 record and 6-1 in WAC play.
The Aggies started the game with 10-0 run that led to a 40-31 halftime lead. Rahman paced all scorers with 13 points on 3-of-3 shooting and a 7-of-9 showing from the free-throw line. Laroche supplied 11 points after a 3-of-3 performance behind the 3-point line.
As a team, the Aggies shot 51.9 percent from the field (14-of-27) including 50 percent from the 3-point line (4-of-8).
Additionally, the Aggies inducted their newest class of US Bank/NM State Athletics Hall of Fame members at halftime of the San Jose State game. The class of 2012 includes former Aggie head athletic trainer C.R. Bickerstaff (posthumously), former sports information director (SID) at NM State Dave Lopez and former Aggie football standout Tony Wragge.
The Aggies finish the regular season at Nevada, Thursday, March 1 at 9 p.m. on ESPN2 and Fresno State, Saturday, March 3 at 8 p.m.
