LAS CRUCES, N.M. (Feb. 20)- The New Mexico State swimming and diving team begins the quest for its first WAC Championship at the conference meet in San Antonio, Texas, Wednesday, Feb. 22 through Saturday, Feb. 25.
"This is the week we have been working for all season, and it is finally here," head coach Rick Pratt said. "It is time to celebrate all of our sacrifices, and I am ready to see some fast swimming. Our expectations like always are very high and to bring home a championship title would mean a lot to this group and everyone involved.
"Once again the top spots in the WAC will be very close, and it should be a great meet. We've had our ups and downs this season, but every one of those experiences has made us stronger, and we are expecting great things from every person traveling to San Antonio. I am expecting a lot of records to fall and excellent performances from our swimmers and divers."
The Aggies have had tremendous success at the WAC meet. Last season, NM State broke 10 school records at the meet and Tricia Kiss earned WAC Freshman of the Year honors. The Aggies finished in fifth place with 405 points in a very tight finish. In 2010, the Aggies posted their best finish in school history with a second-place showing with 494 points.
