LAS CRUCES - The 2012 Aggie baseball team handled the Aggie Alumni winning 20-0, Saturday, Feb. 11 at Presely Askew Field.
The NM State ball club posted 20 runs on 13 hits and didn't commit a single error. The Aggies saw a home run from junior third baseman Bobby LeCount, a three-run shot from junior catcher Patrick McMeel, and grand slams from junior Kyle Phillips and senior Andy Lyon.
The NM State pitching staff did well allowing only three hits while the Aggie defense saw four innings where only three Alumni batters came to the plate. The 2012 Aggie defense also seemed to be in-tune as it turned a double-play in the top of the fifth and a triple play in the seventh going from third to second and finishing the play at first.
Twin brothers, Adam and Evan Mott, led the pitching staff as each hurler worked three innings and allowed a hit each. Red-shirt senior Casey Collins, senior reliever Robert Roher and senior closer Scott Coffman also saw time on the mound to prepare for the upcoming season opener against ACC team Wake Forest.
The Aggies open the regular season with a four-game series starting at 4 p.m. (MT), Friday, Feb. 17 at Presley Askew Field. Tickets are available by calling (575) 646-1885 or by purchasing tickets the day of the game. For all Aggie information, go online to www.NMStateSports.com.
