NM State Equestrian Handles South Dakota State

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The New Mexico State Western Equestrian team defeated South Dakota State on Saturday at the NM State Equestrian Center, 6-1.

"I thought we had a really good day," Western Coach Robin Morris-Walters said. "Our girls rode extremely strong and all the hard work we put in this week paid off in the end."

NM State won the Horsemanship competition, 2-1, while taking the Reining competition, 4-0. The Aggies earned both MVP honors on the day as well.

Megan Gould was named the MVP in the Horsemanship competition, despite tying her opponent Kelsey Champagne, 73 all. Clarissa Edgerton beat Hillery Baysinger, 73.5-68, as Chelsea Campbell was victorious over Amy Mandelke, 72-69.5. Jessica Woosley tied in her head-to-head match up, 72 all.

Brynn Larson took MVP honors in Reining with a 71-69 win over Helen Lauth. Stefanie Story defeated Laura Dunlavy, 71-69.5, while Campbell took her second victory of the day with a win over Jana Basler, 68-0. Marissa Bartman beat Lauren Kostello, 69-65.5. Tara Wilson would tie her opponent, 60.5-60.5.

The Aggies will be back action on Feb. 25 against TCU in Las Cruces, N.M.
