LAS CRUCES, N.M.-After a successful regular season campaign, the New Mexico State University cross country team prepares for the Western Athletic Conference Championships on Saturday, Oct. 29, in Honolulu, Hawai'i.

"I am very confident going into the WAC Championships," said assistant coach Meaghan Harkins.  "Both teams have been moving in a positive direction all season."

The Aggies will be returning to the WAC Championships after finishing second on the men's side and third on the women's side.

The highlight for NM State from the 2010 WAC Championships was the individual results, where junior Courtney Schultz and twin sister Camille finished first and second respectively in the women's 5K.  Courtney finished first with a time of 17:37.24 and Camille finished less than a second behind for second place with a time of 17:37.35.  Junior Chelsa McDonnell also broke into the top ten overall, finishing in seventh with a time of 18:02.37.

The men's squad in 2010 finished the WAC Championships with consistently strong performances across the board.  Seven Aggies finished in the top 25 overall, with the top performance coming from Sophomore Kevin Palmer with a time of 25:09.36 in the 8K, good for seventh overall.

"We are looking to improve from last year," Harkins said.  "We should have more all-WAC athletes on both sides this year."

The Aggies are coming off the Pre-National Meet hosted by Indiana University in Terre Haute, Ind.  NM State was the only team from the WAC to participate in the meet, which included top schools from around the nation.  Courtney Schultz finished first for the women's team with a time of 21:29, good for 27th overall.  Junior Jonah Ruybalid finished first for the men's team with a time of 25:27, good for 73rd overall.
