Paul Harkins to Coach at Yale

Las Cruces, N.M.-Paul Harkins, assistant coach for the cross country team at New Mexico State University, has accepted the job as head coach for men's cross country, middle distance and distance at Yale University.

Harkins spent that last four years as assistant coach for the men's and women's cross country programs at NM State.  Harkins also assisted with the middle distance and distance squads for the track and field team.

During his tenure at NM State Harkins helped vault the women's cross country team to its first ever conference championship in 2009 by winning the Western Athletic Conference title.  He also coached the men's team to 2nd place in the WAC in 2010, the highest finish ever for the program.

Harkins also coached Junior Courtney Schultz to first team All-WAC, WAC Player of the Year, and WAC Freshman of the Year in 2009.  Due to the success the NM State cross country programs experienced under Harkin's coaching, Harkins was named WAC Coach of the Year in 2009.
