43 Elena Holguin

(2012-13): Redshirt Freshman Holguin finished her freshman campaign with three starts and appearances in 23 contests. She played a career-high 25 minutes in her start against George Mason (11/23) and had six rebounds during the Hotel Encanto Thanksgiving Classic game.  Holguin recorded 40 total rebounds including a career-high nine rebounds against UT-Arlington (12/29). She made five three pointers during the year and finished with a .231 field goal percentage.

(2011-12): Freshman

Holguin redshirted the 2011-12 season as a freshman.

High School

Holguin signed to play basketball at NM State in the spring of 2011. A prolific shooting guard, Holguin was a key component of Mayfield's 2011 Class 5A state championship title in New Mexico. She averaged 26.3 points per game in the state tournament. The 5-8 guard also featured prominently in four consecutive district titles while her team compiled a 104-12 record under head coach George Maya.

As Mayfield's top 3-point shooter, Holguin averaged 16.0 points per game. She also was second on her team in rebounds and assists.

Holguin earned recognition on the 2010-11 New Mexico All-State first team and took home state tournament Most Valuable Player honors as a senior. Additionally, she earned all-district accolades on three occasions including a District Player of the Year honor. Holguin was also a three-time All-Tournament selection and named a North/South All-Star in New Mexico.


Holguin was born Aug. 3, 1993 in Las Cruces, N.M., and is the daughter of Estevan Holguin and Bella Wagner. She is planning to major in psychology.
