Biography

 

2010-11 (Freshman)

In his first season with the Aggies, guard Christian Kabongo played in all 33 games and started in 14 games. He averaged 8.9 points per game, which ranked fourth on team. Kabongo also posted 82 assists and 26 steals, which was second and third on the team, respectively. He shot 37.9 percent from the field (97-of-256) and 67.2 percent at the free-throw line (86-of-128), which ranked second on team in makes and attempts. Kabongo recorded 13 double-figure games as a freshman including two games with 20 points or more. In Kabongo’s home debut, he scored 17 points and grabbed six rebounds versus Western New Mexico (Nov. 15). In his first career start, Kabongo had 14 points and a career-high seven rebounds against Southern California (Nov. 21). In his first game at in-state rival New Mexico (Dec. 11), Kabongo scored 21 points on a 7-of-15 shooting performance. He followed that showing with 19 points on 7-of-11 shooting against Arkansas-Pine Bluff (Dec. 13). Kabongo set a career high with 22 points on 5-of-8 shooting and a 12-of-14 showing at the free-throw line at Hawai’i (Feb. 26). In the season finale against Boise State in the WAC Tournament Semifinals (March 11), Kabongo had 11 points with a career-high eight assists.

 

High School

Kabongo joined the Aggies from Central Commerce Collegiate Institute in Toronto and God’s Academy in Dallas, Texas. The Hoop Scoop named him the No. 4 ranked fifth-year player in the Class of 2010. As a sophomore, Kabongo scored a personal-best 58 points in a single game. In July 2008, Kabongo and his AAU team, Grassroots Canada, won the adidas Super 64 Tournament.

 

Personal

Kabongo is the son of Freddy Kelenda Kabongo and Yala Niemba and was born in Montreal, Quebec. He is majoring in criminology.
