2009-10 - Sophomore

Soto started four games at the guard position late in 2009-10 to help lead the Aggies to their first postseason appearance in 16 years. She concluded the year as a member of the Academic All-WAC Team. Soto led the team in assists on seven occasions and in steals once. She match a career high with five fields goals made when she went 5-of-6 against North Dakota State on Dec. 12 - the best outing on the team with a minimum of five attempts. She went 4-for-4 from the free throw line against New Mexico on Dec. 2. Soto was sixth on the team in minutes played and averaged 5.7 points per game with four starts. She scored in double figures in seven of the 32 games on the year while averaging 21.0 minutes per game. Soto posted a season high of 14 points at Cal Poly on Nov. 15. Her 54 assists were third on the team. She scored 181 points, stole 15 balls and grabbed 53 rebounds on the year. Soto shot 35.4 percent from the field and 66.2 percent at the foul line.

2008-09 - Freshman

Soto was named to the 2009 WAC All-Freshman team for her efforts in her rookie season, as she is just one of five freshmen in New Mexico State history to be named to an all-freshman team. She appeared in all 31 games for the Aggies as a freshman and averaged 6.1 points, 2.3 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game. Her 61 assists were the second most on the team and she led NM State in assists in 11 different games. Soto shot 36.5 percent from the field in her freshman season, made nine 3-pointers and shot 65.3 percent at the free-throw line, which was the 12th highest average in the league. Soto proved to be clutch at the line when it mattered most, as she went 18-for-20 at the charity stripe in the final two minutes and in overtime of games. Soto had 21 steals in her freshman season, which was the fourth most on the team and she had two games where she recorded a career-high four steals. In a Feb. 13 win at home over Nevada, Soto scored a career-high 17 points on 5-of-9 shooting and she went 6-for-7 at the free-throw line. In that game Soto hit all four of her free-throws in the final two minutes to hold off the Wolf Pack and secure the win. She scored in double figures eight times in all as a freshman and led the team in scoring once at Boise State, Jan. 23, when she had 11 points on 5-of-8 shooting. On Jan. 4 at Kansas, Soto dished out a season-high six assists and she had three games on the year where she recorded four or more assists. In two different games Soto recorded seven rebounds, the last of which came in an 80-74 win over league-leading Fresno State at home.

High School       

Soto helped lead the Mater Dei High School Monarchs of Santa Ana, Calif., to the 2007-08 Trinity League co-Championship. She averaged 10 points, seven assists and three steals per game her senior season. Soto was a first team all-league performer as a junior and senior. She was the Most Valuable Player of the 2007 Plyocity/Kiwanis Roundball Extravaganza. Soto was named to three other all-tournament teams for her play in her senior season, which included the 2007 West Coast Jamboree, the 2007 Ocean View Varsity Christmas Classic and the Mater Dei Hoops Classic. She averaged 8.1 points per game, 2.8 assist and had 24 steals as a junior where she was selected to the OCVarsity.com All-Junior Team. Soto was on the National Honor Society and the Honor Roll throughout her entire high school career.


Kaitlyn Soto was born August 15, 1990 in Santa Ana, Calif. and is the daughter of Stacy and Robert Soto. She is majoring in journalism. Her grandfather Ned Matthews was an all-American quarterback at UCLA. Her uncle, Bob Ammann, plays professional soccer and is the head men's soccer coach at Cal State Fullerton and another uncle, Brian Barajas, played football at Villanova.
