BOULDER CITY, Nev. - The New Mexico State women's golf team finished the UNLV Spring Invitational tied for 16th with a three-round score of 935 in Boulder City, Nev., Wednesday, March 10.
The Aggies carded a 319 and tied with Oregon State in the 18-team field that played on the par 72, 6,246-yard Boulder Creek Golf Club Course. Host team UNLV, who entered the day leading the field, finished with a 2-over-par 866 in three rounds to win the tournament. Texas carded a 4-under-par in the final day, but it was not enough as it finished second with an 878.
"This was another tough tournament we played in," head coach Paul Brilliant said. "It looked like we were coming together at the start of this tournament, but we still have some work to do."
Junior Suteera Chanachai (Bangkok, Thailand) was the top finisher for NM State as she came in tied for 34th with a 227 after carding a 4-over-par 76 in the final day of play. Senior Maggie Murphy (Sioux Falls, S.D.) was the closest to Chanachai finishing 71st with a 236. Junior Apinporn Swaschuto (Bangkok, Thailand) was only one stroke behind Murphy with a 237 to tie for 72nd.
Sophomores Gina Bortoletto (The Woodlands, Texas) and Ashley Elias (El Paso, Texas) finished tied for 80th and tied for 88th respectively. Bortoletto carded an 8-over-par 80 in round three to finish with a 239, while Elias finished with a 242 after bringing in an 83 in the last day of play.
NM State's next tournament is the BYU Tournament in St. George, Utah, March 22-23.
